The pandemic has been curbed by masking and social distancing, with lock down, but with variable success across nations and regions. Vaccination for whole population may be the last resort to help establish herd immunity and turn pandemic to endemic. In this lecture, Prof YL LAU, Chairman of Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases, Centre for Health Protection discussed the host immune response to SARS-CoV2, its implication to vaccine design and production platforms, the candidates to be used in Hong Kong, how to roll out the vaccines in Hong Kong, and lastly how the society can transit from pandemic to endemic effectively. |
